Biodiversity Education and Exploration Society (BEES) was established in 2010 and is registered in the Central Environmental Authority, holding the registration number 6/6/17/07/404.
The society consists of a team who showed a greater interest and keenness for nature, since their childhood. Even though the society is registered in the year of 2010, the members offered their contribution wholeheartedly for nature since 1992, by affiliating to several institutes, and took part in many research projects as well.
The mission of the society is to create an interest for biodiversity in Sri Lanka, among the school children as well as general public, which we look forward, will give rise to an ardent community, to work with dedication and commitment for the betterment of the Mother Nature.
Towards achieving the mission, the team members have been offering their unflagging energy and service by conducting Workshops, Educational Exhibitions, Field Training Tours, Community Awareness Lectures, Conservation Research, Tree Planting, Habitat Restoration and many more community based programmers. Even though, these untiring efforts are a drop in the ocean, when compared with service that should be rendered by humankind to conserve Mother Nature’s biodiversity, the BEES are ready to serve wholeheartedly throughout the journey, regardless of the amount it covers.
The BEES does a lot of work in collaboration with the Governmental and Non-governmental Organizations, University Academics, foreign professionals, in which both the parties get an opportunity of exchanging their expertise knowledge towards biodiversity and conservation science. During the past years, the members of the society were being selected to participate in a number of national and international workshops, research work on biodiversity and conservation, which provided them a much better chance of gaining knowledge and experience.
Since 1992, our members have been giving their contribution to a number of collaborative research projects, which gave the basement to go after their own research work. Moreover, it is a noteworthy fact that the society today, is capable and qualified to carry on research on their own towards nature conservation.
About Us (Reflection by members)
We, the Bio-diversity Education and Exploration Society(BEES) is a non-governmental , non profit member based organization, comprised of young Conservationists and Environmentalists who are dedicated in conducting research and awareness programmes on biodiversity, specially touching the areas of Reptiles, Amphibians, Fresh water fish, Fresh water crabs, Butterflies and their habitats.
Even though the society was registered in 2010, we offered our contribution for nature since 1993, by affiliating to several institutes. As we carried on our work, we realized that this journey would not fulfill the need of conserving the nature, rather than achieving the personal goals. Therefore, as birds of a feather flock together, few of us carrying the same intention, then started working together as a team. We are not interested on promoting businesses by biodiversity or nature conservation but we do serious conservation work. Since the inception, we are being on a journey towards conserving and restoring the country’s biodiversity as well as exploring the biodiversity and ecology of our motherland. During this untiring journey, we came across a milestone where we registered as a society in 2010 in Central Environmental Authority under the number, 6/6/17/07/404.
